Step 8 - Set up the Linksys wireless camera for port forwarding

Click on the 'OK' and the message box will disappear. MAKE SURE YOU CLICK ON 'APPLY' otherwise your settings will not be changed. NB If you start by changing the IP address of the camera, you will have difficulty accessing the camera to carry out Step 8 and 9. Basically, you will have to go back to your system settings and reconnect to the internet - eg turn on Airport.

Step 9 - Configure the BASIC settings of the Linksys wireless camera

1. Change the name of the camera to something memorable...BUT...DO NOT leave any spaces. eg call it Linksys2 but NOT Linksys 2. If you are setting up several cameras in the same place you can use Linksys1, Linksys2 etc. This name is used in the port forwarding configuration of the Netgear DG834GT wireless router.
2. Change DHCP to 'Fixed IP address' and enter a static IP address for the camera. Enter the static IP address you have assigned to the router (known as the Gateway) and also the DNS name server addresses. If you are using an ISP which does not provide free static IP addresses then consider migrating to one which does. Migration to Zen Internet in the UK is free. Zen Internet give 8 free static IP addreses as standard. The Home 250 package cost £15.01+vat per month. See http://www.lowercall.com/zeninternet.html for further details.
3. Change the SSID to the name of your wireless router. You can find this name in the set up pages of your router, or click on the the 'Airport' tab (see Step 1) For the Netgear 834GT modem/router you should enter NETGEAR.
4. Change the 'Network Type' from 'Ad Hoc' to 'Infrastructure' If you do not do this, the Linksys wireless camera may not operate wirelessly. Last but not least, click on the 'Apply' button.
